For those of you already doing research, describe how you could potentially add a community-based element to it or how you are already doing community-based work. For those who are not, propose briefly a community-based research project that you could imagine doing.

What was especially meaningful or important, in terms of your own learning, during your service learning experience?

How are you poised to leave this experience? In particular, what is especially compelling for you to do next as a person, learner, or community member? (This could be tied to an issue or group you want to investigate, strategies for advancing your own skills and knowledge, etc.)

As you near the end of your service learning (or are at it), what things are different than you expected? How have you changed your own behavior based on differences in your experiences? What advice would you give new service learners based on these experiences compared to your expectations?

As you have read more about Paul Farmer’s travels, what do you think are the biggest strengths he and his team bring to their work? What are their biggest challenges?

Connect the information you read and the presentations in class for either Tuesday’s focus on the environment or Thursday’s focus on Education.

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and that your quarter is going well!  We would like to invite you to our Civic & Community Engagement meeting on Friday November 9 from 1:30-3:30 in Student Services 1010 A,B.  At the meeting, we will have a chance to network, we will discuss current civic and community engagement projects, and lunch will be served!
